Saturday

Ebay tip - Women will always buy up Disney crap. I sold my Fantasia box set - Fantasia, Fantasia 2000 and bonus disc for $50. I bought it a few years ago for $35. Both Fantasia's are coming out next year on Blu-ray in May. I'm not into Disney collectable stuff, but I do have a few things Disneyania.

I have been watching Wire in the Blood- watched all of season 1, now I am on season 2. Watched Oldboy yesterday - it was okay -- the movie was well done, but just didn't grab me.

Today, got the Night of the Iguana one-sheet poster I won on Ebay - it looks great. A nice investment. I can add it to my collection of posters - Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? and Family Plot.

Went to see my grandparents today. I hadn't seen them since last year

Happy Thanksgiving

Hope everyone is spending some time with some family and not alone.

This day marks the beginning of the holiday season - that crazy time of year that is stressful for nearly everyone.

Wednesday

Have been watching Bleak House - have one more episode to watch. Watched Fantastic Planet. I remember watching FP on USA Channel. I think was was like eleven or so.

Working on another biscornu in blackwork with keys as a motif.

Watching Welcome to the Jungle -- a Dimension Extreme movie. I doubt it is as good as Inside. Inside is brilliant.

Going to my grandmother's tomorrow and then to Shane's parents for dinner. Off on Monday - it was a long week last week.

Sat

Thursday - left work at 11 because of the rain and wind. Friday off as well. No damage to the house or cars. The water in the backyard and beyond rose higher than I'd ever seen it. It drains away fast though.

Found a nice pair of lighthouse salt and pepper shakers for my mother for Christmas. Amazon has Criterion Blur-rays on sale - not sure how long that is going on. I've noticed quite a few DVDs - especially older ones are going for $6 or less.

Goes bang, bang...BAM.

I think that is a WWE move. Very effective!

Droid

So I have the new Motorola Droid. I've had it since Friday evening. All the reviews are right - the camera is slow and doesn't take incredible pics. The video it takes is pretty good though. The keyboard is one piece of plastic with raised keys. It is backlit and although not the best, it is faster than the on screen keyboard. So far I have used them about the same. The screen is clear, bright and has great graphics. The best I've seen on a phone. The four buttons at the bottom - back, options, home and search are touch sensitive and very useful. The screen doesn't collect as much oil - I believe it is plastic coated glass, but I'm not sure. The ear speaker seems to want to collect lint from my pocket. I am not using a case - I don't see the need. I know I'll have to watch the back and putting it down because the camera lens isn't protected. The Android 2.0 software is nice - already I've made some wallpaper for the phone and put music on it. The Android Market is nice, but I was hoping for a Stanza program. Everything else I have found an equivalent for from the iPhone, except the games. I miss Crush the Castle. One of the nicest features of the phone is using the dock, which converts the phone into a clock that looks like an alarm clock and then you can dim it - see the weather, access the phone and it charges at the same time. You can set alarms for certain days that reoccur. It has replaced my old alarm clock. I haven't had any problems with the phone - clarity or texting. I have had two programs crash on me, but I didn't notice the phone being slow. It told me it was forcing them to quit and that was that.

Sat

Watced V on Hulu - the first episode. The priest is hot. Went to Michaels and got some floss.

New phone, the Motorola Droid. It is much different than the iPhone and the interface is almost intuitive. The sliding keyboard is nice, it is much faster to type with and takes a little to get used to it, but it can be done. The dock is quite nice -- I have one for the beside. Music management is a bit clunky. Google seamlessly syncs with contacts, calendar and the rest. I had to download apps for Reader and Docs. I'm dissapointed that Stanza isn't in the Android Market.

Went out to eat with J & H at Das Wald Cafe. It was okay. The last time I was there was wth Mathias.

Faye Dunaway is beautiful in Bonnie and Clyde.

Tuesday Night

Halloween, dressed up and went to Matt and Steven's which was nice. Too many people I didn't know were there, but they were nice. Two other gay couples besides us and M & S. Some straight people. One straight guy stripped down to Lycra underwear, leaving nothing to the imagination.

Finished reading Queer Hauntings by Ken Summers. As far as I know this book is the first of its kind, so check it out.

Went to the Dr yesterday and I have an inner ear infection in my left ear - no wonder I can barely hear out of it. Antibiotics for ten days should clear it up. At least I hope so.

I voted today but it didn't do much good...damn Republicans.

Friday

I'm glad it is Friday. Last night I think I have finally finished my costume. There are two parties to go to - one is for a gay couple - and it is also a housewarming. The other is Shane's coworker's straight friends, whom we know through random gathering / parties. My costume consists of 4 yards of white cotton/poly fabric with two ribbon stripes sewed on the bottom half - the toga. I made a belt out of fake grape vine and grapes with ribbon and raffia. I did the same for my head piece. I'll wear sandals and leather wristbands too to complete the outfit. No makeup! I have had fun putting the costume together. I haven't dressed up since I was 13 or so.

I have to go to the dr on Mon - my left ear has been stopped up for a week - I have fluid behind my ear drum. I used peroxide earlier this week and got a ball of wax out, but this is inside my ear. I can barely hear out of it. The right one was stopped up a bit but is now better. I have a perpetual ringing in the left one too, but my ears ring every now and then so I am used to it.

Peter was at the vet yesterday - he had an anal glad cleaned out - it had abscessed and now he is on antibiotics for a week. He is doing much better. He had dragged his bottom so much that the swollen glad ruptured.

Creepiest Places on Earth

I'll agree with a few of these. Especially the Japanese forest. Can one book really convince people that a forest is a great place to kill themselves. Pretty bad when signs get posted.

Sunday

Saw Paranormal Activity. I liked it - I liked the gimic of it - the "Blair Witch" reality aspect of it. You have the bf who has a camera and keeps chiding his girlfriend to screw on camera, blatently disrespects her wishes to stop filming and not bring a ouiji board in the house. The effects were low-key and cool. The footprints in the powder were a little odd, as well as the picture in the attic. The final scene was as frantic as The Blair Witch - a scramble to the climax and a dramatic ending. So it went from poltergeist-like activity to demon to possession. It was enjoyable. A couple of crazy make-you-jump scenes.

Spent most of the day with Jonathan in Norfolk and at MacArthur. Not much else this weekend. Shane was gone to DC on Sat and some of Sun. Didn't do much yesterday - stayed home with the dogs, watched In The Cut - still a great movie and a documentrary call The Sweetest Truth about Gerson therapy. Started watching Mike Nichol's Carnal Knowledge but stopped for a bit.

Drag Me To Hell

Watched the new horror movie - out on DVD called Drag Me To Hell. It was a bit campy, a bit silly, but I liked it some. I like horror movies with no-name actors. This one had Justin Long it is and of course that didn't work very well. The camera work was very, very good. The effects were not very good. The satanic image they kept using was a bit corny. The old gypsy sucking on the girls face - twice, was odd. The gross out factor with the added sound effects was a bit silly. Normally I stay away from mainstream movies, but I do love satanic things.

Will finish Margaret Atwood's new book The Year of the Flood tonight. It is more like The Handmaid's Tale than Oryx and Crake. This book is parallel with the time of Oryx and Crake and the same characters are in it. Snowman/Jimmy and Crake/Glenn are minor characters. This book focuses mainly on two female characters and jumps from the past to the present and has sermons from the Gardner's - a sect of Christian Greenies. There are also songs too. It was a very good book.

Now I get to read Queer Hauntings - one I get to write a book review on for the ALA GLBT RT newsletter for winter.

Friday

I've still had my cold all week, but yesterday my left ear got stopped up - it is still stopped up. Very uncomfortable. I took half a day today. Spent the morning working on requests for ILL and a video for the library. Nearing the end of Atwood's Year of the Flood. Ordered a signed copy today from CA. It won't be inscribed to me, but that is okay. Watched Capote this afternoon. It was decent. I read In Cold Blood a few years ago and enjoyed it.

It has been dreary and rainy for the past few days. Hasn't helped any lethargy I have. I decided to be Dyonisus for Halloween. I have a remnant of black velvet for my toga. I need fake grapes and will make a coronet with that. I need some gold and black ribbon too - maybe with a Greek key design or something like that to edge the toga. I pulled out my awesome Singer sewing machine this week and hemmed the cloth. Worked quite well.

Next week I teach two info session on how to use Adobe Illustrator. That should be fun.

Sick

Day two of being sick - with a cold. Lots of snot, burping, gas, etc. I think I have a fever since I either hot or cold and sweating. Blah. Shane had this last week and still has some reminants of it. It is hard to just sit and be idle. Fall break for the students begins this weekend and Mon and Tuesday there are no classes, so next week will be a bit more quiet. Still have to work on Tuesday night though. I have my first reference assistance appointment next week. I don't know why I haven't been given any up until now. I've been a reference librarian for over a year. The politics of the library and the poison that makes up CNU makes no sense. It is almost like being in a place where a father screws his daughter and makes babies, then puts those babies to work. When babies from the outside come in, they have to prove themselves as a yes baby and even then, they are more scrutinized because they are an interloper. Weird.
